Influence by European political group
Which political groups are punching above their weight and wielding more influence?
We analyse the relative influence of European political groups, considering their share of seats compared to their total share of influence. This lets us grasp the distribution of influence, supposing that all groups have the same number of MEPs.
For example, you can see that some political groups with a higher share of parliamentary influence compared to their share of seats are “punching above their weight” as they perform better than what their size would allow.
On public influence, our data indicates that political groups positioned closer to the ends of the political spectrum tend to outperform those in the centre. The opposite is true for parliamentary influence.
